I am about ready to begin my trip for Senegal. I have all the necessary vaccinations and my flights have been finalized. I will be leaving Monday, September 1st from DC and will fly to Johannesburg, South Africa where I will transfer to my flight to Dakar, Senegal. In Dakar, someone from Projects Abroad will be there and take us up to Saint Louis. I will be staying at the house of Madame Oumou N'Diaye (Unfortunately, the website does not give a pronunciation key) who lives with her daughter Gnagna, niece Gamou, and granddaughters Khady and Fatou. The school year in Senegal doesn't begin until October so for the first month I will be helping with the renovation of a school.
The apprehension of living in a foreign country is beginning to set in, and thankfully I got to spend the past few weeks with my family and friends which was a great comfort. My computer also has a webcam, so if anyone would like to video chat via Skype or a similar program, just let me know! I won't have internet at my house, but there is a local internet cafe that I can use. If anyone has any questions, feel free to post a comment to these posts and I can give answers, or just send me an email (stevevito@gmail.com)
I'd also like to wish my little brother, James, good luck as he starts college next week at Bob Jones University. We are all proud of him, and we wish him the best!
Loves,
Steve
